Our CEO’s Story

 

I started reacHIRE because a career break should not be a career breaker. I know because I took a break. I wasn’t planning on it and I didn’t expect it. One minute I was driving my career and the next I was swerving on a highway to avoid a collision that would profoundly affect my family and force my teenage daughter to miss a year of high school.

The accident was incredibly painful – both physically and mentally. Her recovery became my #1 priority and focus. During the time I was home with my family, I found myself meeting other women who were also on a break. The women trying to return to their careers were facing significant obstacles. Their skills were eclipsed by changes in the marketplace and advances in technology; their references were out of date; and their professional confidence had eroded despite their significant past career achievements. From listening to their stories, I knew that when I returned to work, I would return to something different. I had previously started two companies and successfully exited them, and now I had found the next chapter in the recurring theme of my career – building companies that empower young girls and women at different stages of their lives.

In the past decade since starting reacHIRE, we’ve helped numerous accomplished women get back to work and provided businesses access to a source of amazing talent.

Whether or not they’ve taken a career break, all women can benefit from ongoing support and guidance throughout their careers. We developed the a leadership development program so companies have a proven solution to address challenges related to burnout, turnover, and women’s representation in leadership.

I believe it is imperative that we work together to change career break stigmas and create more concrete career off-ramp and on-ramp opportunities, and leadership pathways, for the sake of our families, our economy, and our world.
